I did a trial in Rodrigues at the Queen Elisabeth Hospital (Oct 2011 to Feb 2012), before being sent to Mauritius to begin my training and internships. I did my studentship in Mauritius at the Central School of Nursing at Victoria Hospital (2012-2015). During my training, I was posted to the Victoria Hospital (bed capacity 956) for general nursing practice, Brown Sequard Mental Hospital for psychiatric nursing, at ENT Hospital Vacoas, at Eye hospital in Moka, and Quatre Bornes Community health center. After getting my certificate in General Nursing from the Central School of Nursing, in Mauritius, I returned to my island and started working as a nursing officer.
At CHC, we carry out all administrative tasks since only one nurse is assigned to work there and manage the other professionals who come once or twice a week; such as family planning personnel, midwives and public health nurses, as well as doctors and health care attendants. As an on-site nurse, you also manage the stock and indentations of the surgery store, general store and pharmacy. We are also responsible for the maintenance of the building. So at CHC we are multiple chaperones; nurses, ward manager, dispenser and records officer. CHCs are facilities, found nearer to the community, where basic services are provided to the clients such as dressing, blood collection, drug dispensing, consultations, family planning, pre- and post-natal clinics, well baby clinics and vaccinations.
Zata Jean Louis and La Ferme AHCs have the same infrastructure and offer the same services with an accident and emergency department where most of the nurses work. However, we have three wards in both AHCs: a male ward, a female ward and a maternity ward. The nurses working at the A&D are responsible for the wards themselves, since, there is only a capacity of 10 beds for each ward. We also offer services such as NCD clinic, family planning, xrays, medical, surgical, orthopedic and psychiatric follow-up.
QEH, the Only Hospital on Rodrigues Island (40,000 inhabitants) with a capacity of 180 beds. It offers medical, surgical, orthopedic, pediatric, intensive care, dialysis, maternity and other basic services.
