- Develop rapport with patients, making their stay in the hospital comfortable and giving them adequate support
- Good history taking is essential and was important in the follow up of each and every patient
- Along with history taking comes good clinical examination. Both of these contributes to make a list of differential diagnoses which can be further followed up on to get the most likely diagnosis for each and every patient.
- Case presentations to attached doctors to ensure knowledge was up to level
- Clinical skills such as suturing, wound care and follow up, emergency suturing of cuts under supervision
- Clinical procedures such as venous and arterial blood gases sampling, intra muscular injections, lumbar puncture under supervision, pleural tapping, abdominal tapping, setting up iv lines, urinary catheterisation, fundoscopy examination. All of them were initially supervised and later the attending physician deemed be responsible with all the procedures.
- Performed CPR several times, bag mask ventilation, quick to help in emergency situations for every little minute thing to ensure everything is being done for the patient.
- Minor operating procedures such as suturing, incision and drainage of abscesses both in theatre and emergency
- Assisted in gynaecological obstetric theatre, surgical and orthopedic. Helped each patient as they got in the theatre, and tried to make them smile or comfortable in any possible way. Ensured proper post op follow up and kept the surgeon updated if need be.
- Counselled patients about proper post op care
- Managing ward work, sending bloods for labs, organising radiological scans, doing and interpreting ECGs, managing patients as per the specialist treatment, basically keeping the work organised and smooth for the specialist was one of my best confident qualities.
- Developed and maintained good rapport with not only the patient but the full medical team as a good working relationship is essential for better patient care.
- Assisted treating physician with proper note taking, prescribing medications, keeping notes organised, knowing all of his or her patients and observing all patients throughout the day.
- Educated patients on their condition and also provided information about preventive measures, diet and lifestyle.
- Learned how to manage the pressure of emergencies, nights on duty, and the build up of work on certain days. I remain calm under pressure.
