Summary

The past 4 years in the Fintech industry have been enriching as I got to know the ABC of ecommerce from merchant to customer, throughout acquiring and gateway processing. I push forward for diligence, focus and detail-oriented in my work and as just a person, I consider myself to be humble and in between an introvert and a social-butterfly.

Payments and Client Services Manager

Checkout.com
Dubai, UAE
02.2021 - 12.2021

Key Responsibilities and achievements

  • Prepare and provide the KPIs for the Client Services and Payments team on a quarterly basis. For example:
    1) Develop a metric to quantify the number of queries resolved through emails and a SaaS such as Freshdesk – To resolve +30 queries within 36 hours of receipt over 5 workdays
    2) Develop an excel MACRO which automatically cross-check all relevant fields for transfers from the company’s system to the banking platform, hence lowering the process time from a half day to 21/2 hours increasing the client satisfaction

3) Automate the payment process by Q3 by working closely with the product team and the banks to understand the requirements to process payment through swift transfers which would provide us with the MT103

  • Prepare and provide the leadership team with the overview of the progression of the KPIs while explaining what the leakages and limitations come from.
  • Create and use a SaaS which would be the team’s main point of review for their goals and the team goals aligned with the company’s objectives. For example:
Using Monday.com, the team will be able to add comments, status such as ‘complete’, ‘Working on it’ and this would provide transparency to the actual progress of KPIs
  • Assistance to commercial team, sales support team and other teams on the best practices to avoid delays in payments and queries. For example:
    1) Provide the teams with the limitations of the pay-out cycles and credit day for all local and international currencies.
    2) Provide details of correspondent banks and fees applied outside the company’s window.
  • Implementation of strategies to adap to economic trends during Covid. For example,

Due to the high rates of refunds/chargebacks for travel companies and the low sales volume, some of their accounts turned into negative hence I analyse their daily refunds/chargebacks which would be covered by their reserves balances and by their other negative balances.

  • Collaborate with the Treasury team to provide the funds to be transfers per currency and how to allocate the fx rate where possible. For example:
$1M to debit early morning the next day and if there’s insufficient funds on the USD account, an exchange rate will be provided using the Central’s bank rate or best rate as per bank or other financial institutions.
  • Review the banks accounts in the morning to allocate funds for processing and apply an exchange rate where possible.
  • Qualify employee’s satisfaction using Peakon to understand their needs, worries and questions which would be anonymously asked, if wanted and having bi-monthly 1-to-1 meeting.

Payments Specialist

Checkout.com
Dubai, UAE

Key Responsibilities and achievements

  • Process payments on the different banking platforms daily and ensuring accuracy of inputs by cross-checking before sending out
  • Taking ownership of the full portfolios for MENA merchants and act as the second point of contact after their Relationship Manager
  • Work closely with banks with regards to evidence of invoices, beneficiaries and equally other non-related irregularities such as excess fees debited from the company’s account.
  • Optimise the reconciliation and investigation rate by creating an excel macro which would link payments to MIDs. For example:
USD1000 has been settled to MID 123456 for processing period 01/12 to 06/12 from the company’s system while only USD850 has been credited to us regarding the said MID and hence, I will investigate on the matter
  • Prepare and provide the commercial team with the pricing model related to the UAE and the GCC banks such as FAWRY, SABB, Omannet and Knet. For example:
    1) If the company’s using SABB as a gateway to process locally, SABB would be invoiced against a certain rate while they would settle merchants on their own, hence we would need to ensure that merchants have access to all the data and can approach the bank directly for any query.
  • Assist merchants through face-to-face meetings, calls, emails on their queries, which helped to resolve 85% of tickets, which would be 42 tickets over 50 closed within a week from receipt
  • Work with the global accounting team to understand the new UAE VAT of 5% and produce a standard template based on the FTA’s requirements
  • Assist merchants in understanding and reconciling their transactions using the API system
